Hi there, today I want to be talking about the concept of entertainment. Entertainment is defined as," the act of entertaning: agreeable occupation of the mind; diversion; amusement" (Entertainment). At the downfall of the great Roman empire, people were treated to spectacular series of gladiator fights. The goal was to have people forget about important things that were happening around them. It was a diversion so people would forget about their problems or things happening around them.
Now think about how in today's society we are constantly being bombarded with entertainment. Instead of covering important things happening around the world, or things that people should be aware of, instead, we get coverage about what famous celebrities are doing and what not, for example, Kim Kardashian. People are so interested in her life that there's even a reality show based on her and her family. The media knows that people tend to tune in when there's something happening to her. Now don't get me wrong this is very entertaining but there are more important things that people should be focused on. Have you heard about the "Great Green Wall"? Most likely you haven't but this is an important green revolution that is happening in the Sahara desert. The goal is to make the Sahara desert green with life. This is very important yet I haven't really seen any big news network talk about it. If more people would be aware of these types of events happening around the world then we could make a difference. It seems slightly unfair to sight that people would rather watch "entertaining" shows and other varieties of entertainment rather than search for information on an obscure project being done half a world away. Also, the news is depressing. I would rather fight my own battle, day-by-day, than convince myself that there is another cause more important that I must give the utmost care nd focus into to stay objective and knowledgeable about the going on of said cause.
