Entry #9. Media

Hello there, today I'm going to be talking about media today. In class, there have been discussions about media and how it pushes information to attract audiences. I now look a media very differently because media outlets will often give information with a lot of bias in it. They will provide audiences with information about a certain topic but with their bias views on it. This might lead to audiences not getting the whole story just the parts that the media outlet wants. There can be a story that every news outlets and they will all have a different story. There might be a topic that every news outlets are reporting on but each would have a different view of it. Each would be trying to address their view of the topic and give their take on it. Remember that what media outlets really care about is grabbing the audience attention and having high ratings. Media outlets know what topic people are interested in and usually report on these topics since this will gain the audience's attention.

We often hear about hate crimes in which "white people" commit against African-American people in media. This might be due to the historical background regarding this subjects so people tend to tune into this topic since it appeals to people's emotions. We really don't hear about hate crimes done to "White people" or other minorities, for example, Mexican-Americans (Chicanos), Asian-Americans etc. These hate crimes happen all the time but we don't really hear about it since media outlets don't think that it would provide the same reaction as white on black crimes.

I have noticed that when media say some things about certain topics viewers tend to believe it. This is a problem because even thought what media outlets might be saying aren't false they might be only a part of the truth. Audiences must keep in mind that no matter what type of media outlet the information is coming from it will always contain some sort of bias information which is intended to sway people to a certain direction. That is it for today until next time.
